J Club offers swim lessons for anyone ages 2 and older. Our expert instructor, Jamie Allred, is dedicated to helping kids and adults develop essential swimming skills, water confidence, and stoke techniques in a fun, safe environment.
Types of lessons
Choose from two types of swim lessons: private (30-minute) and semi-private (45-minute). Private lessons provide one-on-one instruction, ensuring personalized attending. Semi-private lessons — two students, one instructor — are perfect for siblings or friends. View the flyer for a complete list of options, including pricing.
You’ll learn skills and techniques regardless of which type of lesson you choose. Water safety comes first and is taught to all levels. Proper stroke instruction teaches proper techniques that will help swimmers of all ages enjoy being safe in the water. Competitive stroke techniques prepare swimmers for swim teams and competition swimming.
Water safety
Recommended for toddlers ages 2 to 4 years old. These lessons help early swimmers acclimate to being in water and build their confidence. They’ll also learn basic safety skills.
- Put face in water and blow bubbles
- Float on back for one minute
- Flip from front to back in the pool
- How to jump in the pool and how to get out of the pool
Competitive stroke instruction
Recommended for ages 5 to adult, however competitive strokes can be taught at any age if the student is ready. Lessons will be customized based on the goals of the student and their skill set.
Competitive strokes taught:
- Free style (big arms with breathing to the side and kicking)
- Backstroke (swimming on back, kicking and back arm rotation)
- Breaststroke (younger children know it by frog kick and frog arms)
- Butterfly (dolphin kick or mermaid kick with large arm strokes to the side and over the head)
- Elementary backstroke or survival stroke (sidestroke)
- Treading water for 30 seconds (bicycle kick with sculling arms)
- Diving and flip turns
